The Two-fold Purpose of Life

What is your purpose?

The Apostle Paul gives a fantastic message to a young pastor Timothy. This advice is really the whole purpose of life.

“But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” 2 Timothy 3:14-17

The Bible is the Book for Life. This Holy Book never grows old and never grows stale. This passage above shows the two-fold purpose for life: Salvation by faith alone in Christ alone in accordance with the Word of God, and then continued growth and service to Jesus by living the Christian life all your days.

Parents should raise their children to grow up with a knowledge of the Holy Scriptures. The Bible is able to make every individual wise unto salvation by believing the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Rom. 1:16, 1 Cor. 15:1-4, Eph. 1:12-14). Then, after one has been saved by trusting in Christ alone as their personal Savior from sins; continue in the Word of God to learn and understand the Christian life. (see article "Are You Completely Yielded to God?")

The purpose of the Christian life is to fulfill your high calling in Christ for the glory of God. You are complete in Christ Jesus the moment you trust Him as your Savior (meaning you are saved eternally, secured forever in Christ, sealed with the Holy Spirit for eternity), but your faith is being fully utilized when you apply the Christian truths of the Bible and live out your life in Christ daily. Spread the Gospel saving message to every individual you can. Serve others before yourself, and show love like there is no tomorrow. God saved you the moment you trusted in His Sinless Son Jesus. Now tell someone else this good news so they can be saved too.

“For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.” – 1 Timothy 2:3-6

Jesus is the only Savior. Place your complete trust in Him today.
