The children of Israel have a spiritual lesson for believers today to ponder. Israel was never able to conquer all of the land which God promised them. God gave them roughly 300k square miles of land to possess, but even in Israel’s highest possession under King David and Solomon, they only possessed around 30k square miles.
“In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates.” – Genesis 15:18
“Every place whereon the soles of your feet shall tread shall be yours: from the wilderness and Lebanon, from the river, the river Euphrates, even unto the uttermost sea shall your coast be.” – Deuteronomy 11:24
“Now Joshua was old and stricken in years; and the LORD said unto him, Thou art old and stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed.” – Joshua 13:1
This is a spiritual lesson for believers, because Israel feared to claim God’s promises and take hold of them, they never experienced what they could have had.
Are you claiming the spiritual truths which God has promised to you as His child? God says we are blessed with all spiritual blessings. Do you really believe that? Do you know what spiritual blessings you have in Christ Jesus?
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.” – Ephesians 1:3
The spiritual blessings believers possess in Christ Jesus are worth deep regard! We are chosen "in Christ" by our faith in Him as Savior (see Phil. 3:9) to be holy (sanctified) and without blame before God because of His love, good pleasure, and grace (Eph. 1:4-6). Moreover, we are adopted into the family of God and accepted (highly favored) in His sight as His very children (Eph. 1:5-6, John 1:12, & Gal. 3:26). Next, we have been redeemed (delivered from all our sins - past, present, and future sins and delivered from the wrath of God towards our sin penalty) by the pure and sinless shed blood of Christ and His sacrifice for us (Eph. 1:7). We have full access to God and freedom in Christ to serve Him in love (Eph. 2:10). We are made known in God's sovereign plan and have all the Lord's spoken revelation available for our learning in His Word (Eph. 1:8-10). We have received an inheritance in Christ Jesus our Lord which consists of not only Heaven but eternal glory which our finite minds cannot fully comprehend until eternity (see Rom. 8:18, 1 Cor. 1 Cor. 2:9, 1 Pet. 1:3-5). Finally, the Holy Spirit is another spiritual blessing in Christ Jesus which seals us until the day of our redemption (Eph. 4:30). The Holy Spirit is our downpayment given by God while we finish our lives here on Earth; He will guarantee us entrance into Heaven as He reflects God's ownership towards us (Eph. 1:13-14).
Are you experiencing the fruit of the Spirit in your life? Do you have joy in your life? Peace? Patience? Self-Control? All of these characteristics and more are available for you to claim every day by the Holy Spirit.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” – Galatians 5:22-23
Don’t possess fear in your life. God has not given us the spirit of fear! Lay hold of the spiritual blessings you have in Christ Jesus.
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” – 2 Timothy 1:7
“What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” – Romans 8:31
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” – Philippians 4:13
God wants us to claim His promises and live daily in the spiritual blessings He has bestowed upon us. We have mentioned just some of the spiritual blessings in Christ Jesus that accompany our salvation and they offer an everlasting joy, peace, and hope when considered wholeheartedly.
The Apostle Paul possessed the faith to take hold of spiritual truths, and we should too!
Paul says, “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 3:14
Paul says,
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” – 2 Timothy 4:7
