A Healthy Church

What makes for a healthy church?

The local church is a body of born-again believers striving to learn and apply the principles of God’s Word.

A healthy church is a representation of the people of God coming together to accomplish the mission of God for the glory of God.

God is glorified when believers are bearing fruit.

Jesus said, “Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples” - John 15:8

Bearing fruit is reproducing ourselves as believers in Christ. This is accomplished by sharing the Gospel (the sinless shed blood, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus as the complete payment for one’s sins). This is why evangelism is a "must do task" for the church of God (Mark 16:15, Acts 1:8).

“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.” - Proverbs 11:30

“And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.” - John 4:36

As spiritual reproduction is being performed in the local church and abroad, then other Godly aspects will fall into place:

The fruit of the Spirit will be evident in the congregation.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” - Galatians 5:22-23

“For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth.” - Ephesians 5:9

When the fruit of the Spirit is active in the body of Christ, then potent service for Christ will follow.  Praise, worship and adoration for God will be active. Love will be present. Fellowship will be a continual occurrence. Bible reading and prayer will be fervent; and evangelism will flourish.

“This I say then, walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh” - Galatians 5:16

Spirit-filled believers will carry out the mission and work of the Lord. (see article "Are You Completely Yielded to God?")

“And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit.” - Ephesians 5:18

The purpose of a Christian is to reproduce oneself. “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise” (Prov. 11:30).
